Stripe: The Internet's Most Undervalued Company - By Packy McCormick
Stripe is a payments company that describes itself using the word âinfrastructure.â It doesnât get more boring than that in tech, and yet, Stripe is fanatically adored.Â
People love the companyâs co-founders, the charming, intellectual Irish brothers Patrick and John Collison. Its mission is audacious: to increase the GDP of the internet. Engineers rave about its simple-to-use product that makes something as complex as payments just work.
And yet... Stripe is underrated.Â
Such a great read. Stripe is such an aspirational company from all directions.
What's Beyond Self-Improvement? - by Scott H Young
The promises of self-help books are often inflated, get-rich-quick schemes turn out to take a long time and not all of lifeâs problems can be fixed. However, a lot of struggles can be lessened through fairly obvious (but not necessarily easy) steps: set goals, build better habits, learn more and do the work.
But suppose youâre successful with that. Youâve gotten a handle on the big parts of your life. Even if things arenât perfect, youâre headed in a good direction and what remains are mostly details. What then?
Write like you talk - by Paul Graham
Ok, so written and spoken language are different. Does that make written language worse?
If you want people to read and understand what you write, yes. Written language is more complex, which makes it more work to read. It's also more formal and distant, which gives the reader's attention permission to drift. But perhaps worst of all, the complex sentences and fancy words give you, the writer, the false impression that you're saying more than you actually are.
Great read.
